Day 18 – Pray from Your Spirit and Soul

Scriptures to Meditate on and Pray Through –

What is it then? I will pray with my spirit, and I will pray with my mind (understanding) also. – 1 Corinthians 14:15

I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth. – 1 Timothy 2:1-4

He makes wars to cease unto the end of the earth. – Psalm 46:9

How to Pray: With my spirit and my mind –

We need to pray in (or from) our spirit, as the vehicle of the intercession of God’s Spirit, if we are to take hold of God in faith and power. We need to pray with our understanding from our souls using our minds, if we are really to enter deeply into the needs we bring before Him. In this way we bring our whole being to our prayers. Take time to apprehend intelligently each matter, the nature, the extent, the urgency of the request, the ground, and way for the certainty of God’s promise as revealed in His Word. Let the heart made new by God’s Spirit affect the mind and soul. Pray with our understanding and with the mind of Spirit.

What to Pray: For Peace –

The military armaments and financial endeavors in which the nations find their pride, what a terrible thought! What is worse are the possibilities of what the evil passions that may at any moment bring on war and poverty! And what a prospect of the suffering and desolation that would come! But, God can, in answer to the prayers of His people, give peace. Let us pray for it, and for the rule of righteousness on which alone it can be established.
