Day 22 – Do Not Give Up!

Scriptures to Meditate On and Pray Through –

“Then Jesus told His disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.” – Luke 18:1

“Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who suffer adversity and are mistreated as if you yourselves being also in the body were suffering.” – Hebrews 13:3

How to Pray: Praying Always, Not Growing Weary –

Have you not begun to feel that prayer is really the only help for this sinful world in order to see the gospel received? What a need then there is for unceasing prayer! The very greatness of the task can make us despair were it not for God’s promise of the Holy Spirit’s guidance and assistance. What can our ten minutes of intercession do? Even ten minutes is better than no prayer, but after ten minutes we will begin to sense the burden of the Spirit and we will find that more time is needed before we even scratch the surface of the need. It is right we feel this: God is calling and preparing us every single day to give our life to prayer–connection and conversation with God. Give yourself wholly to God for the sake of men and women, and you will not regret that you did. In the midst of all your work, your heart will be drawn out in love to people, and drawn up to God in dependence and expectation. Come with faith and boldness. The Enemy of our souls will not have his way if we pray always. To a heart that is led by the Holy Spirit, it is possible to pray always and not to grow weary. Do not give up!

What to Pray: For All Who Are Suffering –

We live in a world of suffering! Jesus sacrificed everything and identified Himself with it–with us! Let us in our measure seek to do our part in identifying with those who suffer, empathizing with them in their grief and pain. The persecuted believers around the world. The famine-stricken millions in Africa and India, the hidden slavery of Asia, and around the world. The poverty and wretchedness of our major cities and the majority world where economies are under-developed– and so much more – what suffering there is among those who know God and those who don’t know Him. And then in smaller circles, in tens of thousands of homes and hearts, in our own country, in our own neighborhoods, what sorrow! Prayer is needed. There are children who suffer abuse, parents who struggle to provide for their families. How many are needing help or comfort? Let us have a heart for them, and think of those suffering. Let us seek them out, and pray for a heart that weeps with them as Jesus does. It will stir us to pray, to work, to hope, to love more than we do. And in ways and at times we least expect, God will hear and answer our prayer. He is at work even before we ask.
